I pray to God for guidance, and I've historically reached out to family, trusted friends, and selected Senior Leaders for their thoughts. Ultimately, I've always asked myself: "Did I make the best decision I could have made at the time I made it based on what I knew at the time"? If the answer is "yes", I live with the consequences of that decision.
My name is Jared Dawson and I'm a senior accounting major at the University of Texas at Austin. My inspiration stems from my relationship with God. I believe that we are called on this Earth primarily to show love and share the good news to other people. Because of this belief, I have a passion for the empowerment of people, especially minorities. My main goal is to connect my passion for people with my interest in business.
I look for mentors who are personal role models for me. Usually these people have a quality that I would want to have whether that is spiritual wisdom, business acumen, or etc. My mentors have been critical in my development as a person
Hello my name is Janice Sechyi, I attend Stephen F. Austin State University. I recently saw you speak at the NABA Regional conference in Irving. I was really inspired by the last few things you told us in the technical meeting. So I am here now completing the assignment you left with us.
1. For what do you want to be remembered?
Honestly, I don't know exactly what I want to be remembered for but I do know what I do NOT want to be remembered for. And that is someone who is greedy, selfish, untrustworthy, useless, and careless. These are things I hope my name is never associated with.
2. What do you chase?
Experiences is something that I not only chase, but live for. Every experience that has happened in my life good or bad has made me the person I am today. I am only 21, and I know I have more experiences to explore and grow from.
3. Where you look for inspiration, mentors, and working models at this stage in your life?
My only inspiration/mentors are my parents. My parents inspire me to be great without them even trying. Growing up with African parents from Sierra Leone and witnessing them struggle to make it has really humbled me and kept me grounded. My parents came to America with nothing and for them to be successful and still striving for excellence is what I look up to. Their faith in God and following him has also played a major role in my life as well.
4. What are you most proud of and the experiences you've had?
I am most proud of my culture. Being an African- American, in a first generation American family. Growing up I wished I was different, I wished my parents were different. But coming to college and experiencing others and other cultures has made me realized how blessed I am. I can say now I don't know who I would be without my African background and knowing my roots.
